On 10 May 2002, the United Nations General Assembly urged all governments of the world to ‘put children first’, to leave no child behind and to ensure for every child a nurturing and safe environment that enables their physical health, mental alertness and emotional security. Every child has the right to be known, to be respected, to be safeguarded against suffering or fear and to be confident of a safe, peaceful and happy childhood, with caring attention an assurance, not a despairing doubt. India is among the countries that have declared their commitment to these rights. Unfortunately, the reality for millions of Indian children is neither safe nor peaceful nor happy. In this background, the Aligarh Model for child survival may be considered by different agencies for ensuring children's right to life.Downloads
